Macbeth. I had a friend visiting who just happened to be an actress and has played Lady Macbeth 8 times. I played Macbeth opposite her in a number of scenes. The audience was wrapped with attention. It was lovely. Although I had to do a bit of crowd control, the amount of student response-- referring to her visit, asking if she was coming back, even going so far as to say they LIKED it-- was overwhelming. I plan to have another actor in-- this one male-- right after Christmas Break (even writing those words-- ohhhh). He'll do a good Macbeth, and I'll do Lady Macbeth this time. He was supposed to have come when Amy was here, but his principal (on the edge of a nervous breakdown, level one school) denied his request for leave. No matter. This will be great, anyway-- it's such a treat for these children, who have never before seen the like. When I was in highschool, I spent a week in Ashland on a feildtrip to the Shakespeare festival. They had a reproduction of the globe theatre and anyone who's anyone in Shakespeare would kill to act there. It was fabulous. Sadly, this is the closest many of these children will come. Happily, I'm able to provide it for them. That makes me feel...successful. MMmm. Warm and fuzzy. Moving on.
